Dochula is a stunning mountain pass located at an altitude of 3,100 meters (10,171 feet) on the road between Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan, and the town of Punakha. It is one of the most picturesque locations in Bhutan, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas. On clear days, visitors can witness the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan range, including some of the highest mountains in Bhutan. The Dochula Pass is also famous for the 108 memorial chortens (stupas) known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens. These were built by Queen Mother Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck in honor of Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives during military operations in 2003.
